Are camcorders allowed at airports?

My friend and I want to take our camcorder with us to the airport and film us on the plane and stuff. :) But when I went to the mall and filmed we got in trouble and they said we couldn't because of copyright. I really REALLY don't want to get my 400$ camcorder that I use everyday to be taken away by the airport security. :( I live in colorado. It would be in DIA. (Denver International Airport)
